Autumn is a great time to tackle annual home maintenance items. As the cold weather approaches it's imperative to get your home ready for the winter season.
Based on my experience, the following ten maintenance items should be checked prior to the winter season:
1. Service the heating system
2. Fill fuel tanks and change filters
3. Replace HVAC air filters
4. Inspect and clean chimney
5. Test fire and CO alarms
6. Clean gutters
7. Inspect roof
8. Weatherstrip windows and doors
9. Seal cracks in driveway/walkway
10. Winterize outdoor plumbing
These items aren't necessarily universal in every home, and please keep in mind that some maintenance items require the skill and experience of a professional.
